As a rule, a good lecture is a mix of stuff you know and stuff you didn't know. If done well, the new stuff is tied to the old stuff in a manner which helps you make the connection. Sometimes there's slippage and you're suddenly listening to which might well be a foreign language.

When this happens in this class, I encourage you to call out1 "MEGO", which stands for my eyes glaze over.

This will be a signal to me that there's some kind of tie-in that I should have made, but didn't.

1 If you feel too silly saying this word, you're welcome to just raise your hand and tell me where I lost you. You should realize that if you're confused, others may be confused as well, so your "interruption" will help us all.
